Objective: Traditional dance is not merely a cultural heritage rich in symbolic value, but also holds the potential for structured physical activity closely related to sports science. This study aims to identify the types of basic sports movements within the movement structure of the Lianama Dance and to analyze their benefits for physical fitness components among the Nelo Lewo Dance Group in Blepanawa Village, East Flores Regency. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a limited ethnographic approach and visual content analysis, data were collected through in-depth observation, semi-structured interviews, and audiovisual documentation. The results of the analysis show that the movement structure of the Lianama Dance encompasses three main categories of basic sports movements: (1) locomotor movements (forward and backward steps, tiptoeing, and light jumps); (2) non-locomotor movements (repeated foot stomps, bending and leaning the body, swaying the waist, hip swaying, and arm swings); and (3) manipulative movements (use of ketana props, senoda adorned with chicken feathers, and red cloth). These findings directly contribute to the five main components of dancers’ physical fitness: cardiovascular/muscular endurance, lower-body and core strength, static and dynamic balance, high neuromuscular coordination, and agility and flexibility. Thus, the Lianama Dance has been proven to effectively serve a dual purpose as a medium for preserving local wisdom and as an educational and health-promoting physical exercise tool in the context of physical education.
