Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that students are still found to show apathy in the learning process at SMA Negeri 1 Painan. Apathy is characterized by low concern, motivation, self-confidence, and a tendency to withdraw from learning and school activities. This study aims to describe the apathy profile of grade XII students based on indicators of manifestations of authoritarian personalities, desperation, distrust, and helplessness so that they withdraw from activities. The research uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive method. The population amounted to 275 students in class XII, while a sample of 76 students was selected using simple random sampling techniques. Data was collected through a Likert scale questionnaire that had met the validity and reliability tests. The results showed that the apathy attitude of students in general was in the medium category (40.79%). In each indicator, the manifestation of authoritarian personality obtained a percentage of 39.47%, despair 36.84%, distrust 36.84%, and helplessness so that they withdrew from activities 44.74%, all of which were in the medium category. These findings show that apathy is still quite visible so that it requires attention through guidance and counseling services in schools.
